So this afternoon I spent some time at the park reading my favorite book by Fulton J. Sheen. I have never actually finished this book on account of me always wanting to go back and once again read the chapter on meekness. Fulton Sheen has put one of the most beautiful deceptions of meekness into writing and it gives me goose bumps. So I’m just going to do a little fill in of what I read and my own little break down of it

" A meek man will never fight when his conceit is attacked, but only when a principle is at stake"
~The cross and the Beatitudes, Fulton J. Sheen
When ever you are lied to, yelled at, disapproved, resented, ridiculed, rebuked, hated, despised, put down or torn down you should not be angered, you should turn your other cheek
But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also." (Matthew 5:38-39
Anger is not a sin, when there is justice to be seen, not justice of our pride, but justice of our lord. There must be a principle at stake. A good example of a just fight is the fight for the unborn, this act of abortion is unjust to others and when we have politicians making abortions legal, Gods principle is at stake, and in this case, a fight for justice is ok, anger is ok. Now, it would not be ok for you to do any harm against those putting principles at stake, because then you would be guilty of their same crime. You'll notice in scripture where many times, various men that were working for the Lord would go to him and cry out in anguish, frustration and sometimes anger at what the world was doing to dishonor his God. I wish I had some solid examples on me.. I'm thinking Moses is a good one. God is calling us to be meek when our person is attacked, hen our pride is taken down, and when we are called to act as Christ did on the day of his crucifixion. Christ not only preached meekness, but he lived it wholly. Look at the crucifixion! The greatest example of meekness, his person was being attacked, his pride torn, but he turned the other cheek. If you look at that time in the temple where there was prostitution-taking place, he flipped tables over! Principles were being ignored, therefore, his anger was justified.
One of the reason that the cross is one of the greatest love stories ever told, is because of Christ's meekness.
There is a litany of humility that is a really good thing to say first thing during the day, tohelp remember what is asked of us and to ask God for his grace to be meek.
O Jesus! Meek and humble of heart, Hear me.
From the desire of being esteemed; Deliver me, Jesus
From the desire of being loved; Deliver me, Jesus
From the desire of being extolled; etc.
From the desire of being honored…
From the desire of being praised…
From the desire of being preferred to others…
From the desire of being consulted…
From the desire of being approved…
From the fear of being humiliated…
From the fear of being despised…
From the fear of suffering rebukes…
From the fear of being calumniated…
From the fear of being forgotten…
From the fear of being ridiculed…
From the fear of being wronged…
From the fear of being suspected…
That others may be loved more than I; Jesus grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be esteemed more than I; Jesus grant me the grace to desire it.
That, in the opinion of the world, others may increase and I may decrease; etc.
That others may be chosen and I set aside…
That others may be praised and I unnoticed…
That others may be preferred to me in everything…
That others may become holier than I, Provided that I may become as holy as I should…
Amen.
